Description
The American Fyre Designs 48" Fire Bowl is an outdoor gas fire bowl with a 48-inch round basin and room for a propane tank in the base. It measures 48" dia x 22" H and carries a 16" stainless steel star burner rated at 100,000 BTU on its high setting, in propane. This listing is the Black Lava finish, handcrafted in the USA.
It runs on AFD's FyreStarter system: a Bluetooth control with a range of up to 30 feet line of sight, HI and LO flame settings and USB-A and USB-C charging ports. FyreStarter needs a 120-volt, 15-amp GFCI outlet near the unit. The propane version keeps a 20 lb cylinder out of sight inside the base, behind the storage door; the cylinder itself is not included.
Plan these before you order: the propane cylinder, which is not included, a 120-volt GFCI outlet, and 3 feet of open space on every side with 6 feet clear above. See more American Fyre Designs fire features.
The first photo shows the Black Lava finish. Installed photos may show another finish, and each piece is handcrafted, so color and texture vary slightly.

Features
- 100,000 BTU, 16" stainless steel star burner: a star burner that spreads flame across the media.
- FyreStarter Bluetooth control: run the flame from your phone within about 30 feet, with HI (100,000 BTU) and LO settings, and charge devices from the USB-A and USB-C ports.
- Field-convertible fuel: AFD's certified kit changes the gas type if your supply changes (installed by a qualified technician).
- Glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC): handcrafted in the USA, finished in Black Lava.
- Lava granules included: 35 lb in the box, all the media it needs if you use lava as your fire media. For fire glass or gems instead, AFD recommends 70 lb.
- Certified: ANSI Z21.97 / CSA 2.41 for outdoor decorative gas appliances.

Installation planning
- Outdoor use only. Keep at least 3 ft from any construction on each side and 6 ft from anything overhead. Over time, soot can collect on a ceiling above the unit.
- Set it on a hard, level surface. AFD permits a combustible surface under the unit, but keep it out of traffic areas and away from combustibles.
- Use only a cylinder with an overfilling prevention device and vapor withdrawal, and never store a spare cylinder under or near the unit.
- A fixed gas line needs an easily accessible shut-off valve (not included) within 6 ft of the unit. Natural gas inlet pressure is 5 to 10.5 in. w.c.; propane is 11 to 13 in. w.c. AFD recommends a sediment trap where applicable. Above 2,000 ft elevation, check with your gas supplier first.
- Plan a 120-volt, 15-amp GFCI outlet for FyreStarter, and keep your phone within about 30 ft of the unit, line of sight, to use the app.
- Have it installed by an NFI-certified or other qualified installer, service agency or gas supplier, following local codes, and have it inspected at least once a year.
- Plan for two or more people. Some components are heavy and have sharp edges, so wear gloves.
- Don't run it in heavy rain or high wind. AFD warns that wind can push flame onto the finish and crack or discolor it. Never burn wood or other solid fuel, and never leave it burning unattended.
- Care: wipe up spills right away, use coasters, clean with mild soap and water, and apply a masonry sealer once a year. Concrete develops a patina outdoors; AFD does not treat spotting or hairline cracks as defects. Keep it covered when cool and not in use.
Warranty
AFD limited warranty: 3 years on the GFRC fire bowl and burner; 1 year on electrical components, valves, accessories and controls (batteries, wind guards and screens excluded). It covers the original purchaser, single-family residential use in the US or Canada, with proof of purchase and installation by a qualified professional. A separate warranty applies to commercial or multi-user settings. Labor is not covered. Damage from high wind, from burning wood or any fuel other than natural gas or propane, and normal outdoor rust, corrosion or discoloration are excluded. Full terms are on page 54 of the manual, and you can register the product at rhpeterson.com.
