Description

The Outdoor GreatRoom 40" See-Through Ready-to-Finish Gas Fireplace is a see-through (two-sided) outdoor gas fireplace frame you finish on site. The frame is G90 marine-grade galvanized steel with Fiberock backerboard, with vents, a control panel cut-out and glass wind guard panels already in place; you finish the outside with stone, stucco, tile or another non-combustible material to match your patio.

Its 7" x 37" Crystal Fire Plus insert is rated 80,000 BTU/hr and lights by direct spark ignition from a low-voltage switch. Plan ahead: it needs a natural gas line and a GFCI-protected circuit for the outlet factory-installed inside the frame. Fire media is sold separately (30 lb).

Features

  • Crystal Fire Plus burner: BI737 (7" x 37" DSI insert), in #304 stainless steel.
  • See-through design: the flame shows from both sides, so it can divide two seating areas.
  • Finish it your way: granite, stone, stucco or Supercast concrete tops, applied on site. Most ship in one piece.
  • Electronic controls: a low-voltage switch comes standard; a 60-minute or 4-hour timer, an emergency stop or remote-mounted switches are available separately.
  • Safety: the control module shuts the burner down if it does not light within its ignition window. Listed to ANSI Z21.97-2017 / CSA 2.41-2017 for outdoor decorative gas appliances, tested by UL.
  • Residential and commercial use: listed for both; Outdoor GreatRoom offers timers and emergency stops for commercial installations.

What's included

  • Ready-to-finish steel and backerboard frame
  • Crystal Fire Plus BI737 (7" x 37" DSI insert) burner
  • Glass wind guard panels
  • Two pre-installed 10 sq. in. vents
  • Factory-installed outlet inside the frame
  • Low-voltage on/off switch

You'll also need

  • A natural gas line run by a qualified installer
  • A licensed electrician for the GFCI-protected circuit
  • Fire media (30 lb) and non-combustible finishing materials
  • Non-corrosive leak-check solution
  • At least two people to move and set it

Installation planning

  • Outdoors only. The space can have walls on all four sides with no roof; a roof with two side walls; or a roof with three side walls as long as 30% of the side wall area stays permanently open.
  • Clearance: every finishing material must be non-combustible. A single-sided unit needs 1" to a combustible back wall; over-framing needs 6" at the top and 1" at the sides and back, or the optional standoff kit.
  • Electrical: connect the factory-installed outlet to a GFCI circuit to local electrical code, or power it from a 2 D-cell battery pack kept dry and easy to reach.
  • Gas connection: installation and repair should be done by a qualified service technician; Outdoor GreatRoom recommends NFI-certified gas professionals. Use two wrenches on every fitting.
  • Leak check: brush a non-corrosive leak-check solution on every connection and open the gas slowly; bubbles mean a leak. Rinse the solution off afterwards, then purge air from the line before the first lighting.
  • Fire media: spread it evenly over the whole burner; it must be in place whenever the burner runs. Use Outdoor GreatRoom media in the amount it specifies, and don't overfill.

Lighting and use

  • Lighting: with the switch off, open the gas supply, then turn the low-voltage switch on. After a 1-2 second self-check the module sparks, opens the gas valve and lights the burner.
  • If it doesn't light: the burner shuts down after its 12-second ignition window. Turn the switch off and wait 5 minutes before trying again. Never try to light it if you smell gas.
  • Turning it off: switch it off and close the gas supply.
  • Safety: keep children and pets away from hot surfaces and the flame, keep clothing and flammables clear, and never burn wood or other solid fuels in it.

Care and maintenance

  • Annual service: have a qualified professional service it at least once a year: clear debris from the burner pan, clean the ignition electrode and thermocouple, and check the burner neck and orifice for obstructions.
  • Cleaning: lift out the fire media, wash it in water with dish soap and let it dry on a towel. Blow debris out of the burner pan with compressed air; stainless trim can be polished with a stainless steel cleaner. The ignition wind guard discolors with heat, which is normal.
  • Finish: follow the care instructions for the facing material your installer applied.

Warranty

The Outdoor GreatRoom Company's warranty starts on the date of purchase and covers defects in material and workmanship for installations in the United States and Canada:

  • Crystal Fire Plus stainless steel burner: limited lifetime warranty of 10 years in a residential installation, 5 years in a commercial one
  • Ignition and electronic components: 3 years residential, 1 year commercial
  • Fireplace enclosure: 5-year structural warranty. Finish claims go to the installer who applied the finish
  • Glass wind guards (sold separately): 90 days on the glass

It is for the original owner and the original installation and cannot be transferred. It is void after installation or use that doesn't follow the manuals or local codes, use of other fuels, unauthorized parts or modifications, misuse, or skipped maintenance. Contact the dealer you bought from first; Outdoor GreatRoom asks for written notice with proof of purchase and a chance to inspect the product before anything is removed or repaired.
