Description
The Outdoor GreatRoom Crystal Fire Plus 72" x 12" Linear Gas Burner is a 72" x 12" stainless steel drop-in burner for a custom fire pit, fire table or outdoor fireplace. It's the burner Outdoor GreatRoom builds into its own fire tables, sold here to drop into an enclosure you build. It comes with a manual control valve, push-button sparker, control panel, a natural gas conversion kit and clear glass gems.
Outdoor GreatRoom rates it at 121,000 BTU/hr on propane and 120,000 BTU/hr on natural gas, which calls for a hard-piped gas line rather than a 20 lb cylinder. Have a qualified installer run the gas line, and check local codes before installation.
- Heat output: 121,000 BTU/hr propane, 120,000 natural gas
- Size: 72" x 12" burner
- Fuel: Liquid propane as shipped; natural gas with the included conversion kit
- Ignition: Push-button sparker, manual valve

What's included
- Stainless steel burner
- Manual control valve and knob
- Push-button sparker
- Control panel
- Natural gas conversion kit
- Clear glass gems (30 lb)
You'll also need
- A hard-piped gas line run by a qualified installer, sized for the burner and following local codes
- An enclosure built to the burner manual: non-combustible top, 4" clearances, and vents sized for the fuel
- One AAA battery for the sparker
- Two wrenches for the gas connections, a Phillips screwdriver, a utility knife and gloves
- Non-corrosive leak-check solution
Installation planning
- Outdoors only. The space can have walls on all four sides with no roof; a roof with two side walls; or a roof with three side walls as long as 30% of the side wall area stays permanently open.
- Clearance: 72" from the top of the burner to anything combustible overhead, 24" from the burner edge to combustible side walls, and 4" below the burner. Set it on a solid, level surface with clear walkways around it.
- Enclosure venting: an enclosure that houses a propane cylinder must have two equal vents near the top and two near the bottom, at least 90 degrees apart (10 sq. in. each for a 20 lb cylinder). For a hard-piped enclosure, vents are recommended: near the top for natural gas, near the bottom for propane. Add drainage and a vapor barrier underneath.
- Gas connection: installation and repair should be done by a qualified service technician; Outdoor GreatRoom recommends NFI-certified gas professionals. Use two wrenches on every fitting.
- Natural gas conversion: the burner ships set for propane. Fit the included conversion parts before connecting it to a natural gas line.
- Leak check: brush a non-corrosive leak-check solution on every connection and open the gas slowly; bubbles mean a leak. Rinse the solution off afterwards, then purge air from the line before the first lighting.
- Fire media: spread it evenly over the whole burner; it must be in place whenever the burner runs. Use Outdoor GreatRoom media in the amount it specifies, and don't overfill.
Lighting and use
- Lighting: with the control valve off, open the gas supply. Press and hold the sparker button and check for a spark, then turn the knob to LOW/IGNITION, push it fully in and hold it 3-5 seconds. The burner should stay lit when you release the knob.
- If it doesn't light: after 20 seconds, turn the valve off and wait 5 minutes for gas to clear before trying again. Never try to light it if you smell gas.
- Flame height: adjust between LOW and HIGH at any time. To turn it off, return the knob to LOW/IGNITION, push in and turn to OFF, then close the cylinder valve.
- Safety: keep children and pets away from hot surfaces and the flame, keep clothing and flammables clear, and never burn wood or other solid fuels in it.
Care and maintenance
- Annual service: have a qualified professional service it at least once a year: clear debris from the burner pan, clean the ignition electrode and thermocouple, and check the burner neck and orifice for obstructions.
- Cleaning: lift out the fire media, wash it in water with dish soap and let it dry on a towel. Blow debris out of the burner pan with compressed air; stainless trim can be polished with a stainless steel cleaner. The ignition wind guard discolors with heat, which is normal.
