Description

The Broilmaster B-Series Loaded Edition 40 (BSB405) is a 40-inch built-in gas grill head in 304 stainless steel. It has five 14,000 BTU cast stainless steel burners (70,000 BTU across the main burners) and a rear infrared rotisserie burner. Interior work lights, blue LED control panel lights and the rear infrared burner are standard on the Loaded Edition.

You get 648 sq. in. of cooking area on 5/16" stainless steel grids, or 853 sq. in. including the warming rack. Stainless flame tamers and 4 removable heat zone dividers let you run separate zones, and a push-and-turn Flame Thrower ignition lights each burner with no battery. Choose natural gas or propane above; every grill ships gas-specific and packed with a conversion kit for the other fuel.

Plan ahead: this head is certified only for a built-in enclosure made of non-combustible materials, and it cannot go under any overhead combustible construction. The lights run from a transformer that needs a GFCI-protected outlet in the island. The rotisserie spit and motor are sold separately (B-Series 40" rotisserie kit (BSAMR40)). Broilmaster also offers this head on a freestanding cart: the B-Series 40" stainless steel cart with two doors and side shelves (BSACT40).

Installation planning

  • Cut-out: 38" W x 20-1/2" D. Broilmaster's documents differ on the cut-out height, so take it from the current installation manual (BR0387) before the island is framed. If you use the optional insulated sleeve, frame to the sleeve dimensions in the manual instead.
  • Install it only in a built-in enclosure made of non-combustible materials (for example brick or cement board), and never under an overhead combustible structure. Allow at least 5" behind the hood so it opens fully. Keep the clearances to combustible construction printed on the rating plate and in the manual.
  • The grill must stay removable for service: do not grout or fasten it in at the sides. Leave a 4" square hole in the rear or bottom of the island for the gas and electrical connections.
  • Propane in the island: use one standard 20 lb tank with an overfill prevention device (about 12" diameter x 18-1/2" high). The enclosure needs vent registers of at least 10 sq. in. each, two per side, one high and one low, with the bottom of each vent at least 2-1/4" above the ground (Broilmaster's BRB-1 vent register kit has two 10" x 2-1/4" openings). Never store a spare tank under or near the grill.
  • Natural gas: install a shut-off valve outdoors at the gas supply, and connect the built-in grill with a stainless steel flex line. Disconnect the grill during any gas-line pressure test above 1/2 psi. Broilmaster asks for a certified professional gas installer; a permit may be required, and Massachusetts requires a licensed plumber or gas fitter and a T-handle gas valve on permanent installations.
  • Leak-test every connection with a 1:1 mix of liquid detergent and water before first use, at the start of each season and each time the propane tank is changed. Never use a flame.
  • Outdoor use only: never in a garage, building, porch, shed or breezeway, and never on a balcony, deck or patio above the ground floor, in an RV or trailer, or on a boat.
  • The light transformer mounts to the island wall and must plug into a GFCI-protected, grounded outlet. The rotisserie motor needs its own 110V supply.
  • Before first use, remove any shipping wires from the burners, then preheat on high for 10 to 15 minutes with the hood closed. Healthy flames are blue with yellow tips.

Care: After each use, once the grill is cool, wipe the stainless steel with a soapy cloth and rinse; remove sauces and marinades promptly, since they are acidic. Check and empty the drip tray before each use. Wash the grids and flame tamers in warm, mildly soapy water, and give the whole grill (grids, flame tamers, dividers and burners) a thorough cleaning at least every 6 months. Inspect and clean the burner venturi tubes at least twice a year and whenever spiders are active, because a blocked tube can cause a flashback fire. Do not use steel wool, stiff wire brushes, abrasive cleaners, bleach or chlorine-based pool chemicals on the stainless steel; polish with the grain. Do not cover the grilling area with aluminum foil.

Warranty

Broilmaster limited warranty for B-Series grills: limited lifetime against rust-through on the stainless steel grill housing, the stainless steel cooking grids, drip pans, warming rack, side burners and stainless built-in components (sleeves, access doors and drawers, vent register kits); limited 5 years against rust-through on the flame tamers and heat zone partitions and on the infrared burners, including the rear rotisserie burner; limited 1 year on valves, knobs, ignitors, labels, hoses, fittings and other parts not listed above. The lifetime coverage is a one-time replacement of the covered component.

The warranty covers the original purchaser only and does not transfer. The grill must be installed by a qualified installer and operated and maintained as the manual describes. Keep your bill of sale or payment record. It does not cover damage from misuse or improper installation or storage, lack of maintenance, wind-related heat damage, aluminum foil over the grilling area, unauthorized service or parts, removal and reinstallation, service calls, labor, travel, diagnostic or freight costs. To make a claim, contact your installing dealer with your receipt, the model and serial number and the gas type; replacement parts ship from Broilmaster, and shipping is not covered. Full terms are in the owner's manual.
