Description

The Primo Heat Deflector Rack for the Round (PG00331) is the single rack that sets up the Primo Round PGCRH and the All-In-One Round PGCRC for indirect cooking. Primo says the rack is placed in the Primo Round Charcoal Grill to hold the heat deflector plate, which allows indirect cooking. Primo's Quick Start Guide lists the indirect one-zone setup for baking, roasting and smoking as the one that needs heat deflectors or racks.

Primo's round ceramic heat deflector sits on this rack and, Primo says, turns the Round into an oven or a low-temperature smoker. Primo's price list also lists the 16-inch natural finish ceramic baking stone PG00348 for the XL, Large and Round as a deflector. The Round has an 18-1/2 in. round cooking grid with 280 sq. in. of cooking area (Primo Round spec sheet).

Plan ahead: the deflector plate or stone is sold separately, and this rack is made for the Round only; the oval grills use their own racks, listed below. Primo does not publish the rack's material, dimensions or weight; ask us if you need them before you order.

Features

  • One rack for the Round: Primo's price list sells the Round rack as a single piece.
  • Holds the deflector: Primo designs the rack to carry its round ceramic heat deflector for indirect cooking.
  • Oven or smoker: with the deflector on the rack, Primo says the Round works as an oven or a low-temperature smoker for dishes such as slow-roasted chicken, smoked fish or baked cookies.
  • Sized for the Primo Round: made for the Round charcoal grill and its 18-1/2 in. cooking grid.
  • Low-and-slow setups: Primo's owner's manual recipes use indirect setups from about 225-250°F up to about 350°F.

Setup and use

  • Confirm the grill: this rack is for the Primo Round. Primo's warranty does not cover unauthorized parts, so match the part to your grill before ordering.
  • Set up indirect cooking: place the rack in the Round and set the round ceramic heat deflector on it, as Primo describes. Primo does not publish a separate diagram for the rack, so ask us if you are unsure.
  • Fuel and lighting: use only natural lump charcoal, lit with a fire starter cube, a chimney or an electric starter with the dome open. Never use lighter fluid; Primo says it is absorbed by the ceramics and gives food a fuel taste.
  • Temperature control: Primo's Quick Start Guide notes that it is easy to raise the temperature and hard to bring it down, so approach your target gradually; for smoking, start a small fire and use only the daisy wheel holes on the top vent.
  • Safety: use caution with any hot item and keep children away while cooking (Primo owner's manual).
  • Grill placement: the Round needs 10 in. of clearance behind it so the lid opens properly and at least 2 in. around the outside (Primo Round spec sheet).

Care: Primo does not publish separate care instructions for the rack. Its warranty excludes rust, fading, surface blemishes and oxidation unless they cause the part to fail, and lists weather, moisture, salt, scratches and chemicals among the things that can mark metal parts.

Warranty

Primo Ceramic Grills gives the original purchaser of the grill a limited lifetime warranty on all ceramic parts, a limited 5-year rust-through warranty on metal parts other than cast iron, a limited 1-year rust-through warranty on cast iron parts and on all other parts and accessories unless stated otherwise, and a limited 30-day warranty on felt gaskets and thermometers. Primo's warranty page does not name the heat deflector rack; ask us to confirm the coverage before you order.

Primo's conditions: coverage is for the original purchaser; the product must be used according to Primo's instructions; keep a bill of sale or payment record. Replacement parts ship at the purchaser's expense. Not covered: damage from use, misuse, improper installation or storage, unauthorized service or parts, lack of maintenance, removal and reinstallation, service calls, labor, travel, diagnostic and freight charges. Claims go through your dealer with the model number and proof of purchase, or through Primo's online warranty claim form; international claims are not accepted. Full terms are on Primo's warranty and parts page.
