Description

The Primo Pizza Oven Insert for Oval Large 300 (PGLGP) is Primo's pizza oven accessory in the Large size, made for the Primo Oval Large 300 ceramic charcoal kamado grill. Primo says its pizza oven "helps maintain cooking temperatures in the grill while cooking multiple pizzas," because you add and remove pizzas without opening the whole grill. Primo's brochure puts it in one line: cook multiple pizzas without having to lift the lid.

It fits the Primo Oval Large 300 PGCLGH and the Large in the All-In-One Oval Large 300 PGCLGC; Primo's brochure lists the pizza oven for the LG. The Large has a 300 sq. in. main grid of 15 x 22 in., or 495 sq. in. with Primo's optional rack system (Primo Large spec sheet). For the XL, see the Oval XL 400 pizza oven PGXLP. You can also browse our Primo collection.

Plan ahead: Primo notes this accessory may not be compatible with certain pre-2015 grill models, so tell us your grill's model and year before you order. Primo does not publish the insert's dimensions, weight, material or a carton list, or written instructions for using it, so ask us any fit questions first. A pizza or baking stone, heat deflectors and charcoal are separate (below).

Features

  • Cook several pizzas with the dome down: you add and remove pizzas through the pizza oven instead of opening the whole grill, which Primo says helps hold the cooking temperature across multiple pizzas.
  • Made in the Large size: Primo builds the pizza oven in separate X-Large, Large, XX-Large and Round sizes; PGLGP is the Large size for the Oval Large 300.
  • Factory Primo accessory: Primo's own pizza oven, sized to its grills, rather than a universal kamado insert.
  • Uses the grill's own heat: the Primo Oval Large 300 is rated 151 to 850°F+ (Primo brochure), and Primo's Quick Start Guide calls for low to medium temperatures when baking pizza.
  • Primo accessory warranty: covered by Primo's limited 1-year rust-through term for parts and accessories, unless Primo states otherwise (see Warranty).

Installation planning

  • Confirm the size first: PGLGP is the Large pizza oven for the Oval Large 300. Primo says it may not fit certain pre-2015 grills, and its warranty does not cover unauthorized parts, so match it to your grill before ordering.
  • Setup: Primo's Quick Start Guide says to cook at low to medium temperatures for baking pizza, with the heat deflectors and racks in place for baking, roasting and smoking. Primo does not publish separate pizza oven instructions, so ask us before your first cook.
  • Placement of the grill: Primo's Large spec sheet asks for 12 in. of space behind the grill so the dome can open fully, and at least 2 in. around the outside of the grill.
  • Fuel and lighting: use only natural lump charcoal, lit with a fire starter cube or two, a chimney or an electric starter with the dome open. Never use lighter fluid or any other combustible liquid; Primo says the ceramic absorbs it.
  • Charcoal: Primo's Quick Start Guide calls for a full fire box of charcoal for smoking and searing temperatures and half a fire box for two-zone cooking; used charcoal can be relit 2-3 times after stirring the ash through the grate and adding about 30% new charcoal.

Care: Primo's owner's manual says the grill is self-cleaning: heat it to around 500°F to burn off food and debris. Primo's warranty maintenance asks you to remove ash from the cast iron grate, clean the cooking grates and cast iron surfaces after each use, and check and tighten the band bolts several times a season and after each high-heat cook.

Warranty

Primo Ceramic Grills gives the original purchaser of the grill a limited lifetime warranty on all ceramic parts, a limited 5-year rust-through warranty on metal parts other than cast iron, a limited 1-year rust-through warranty on cast iron parts and on all other parts and accessories unless stated otherwise, and a limited 30-day warranty on felt gaskets and thermometers. Primo's warranty page does not state a separate term for the pizza oven, so the general term for parts and accessories applies unless Primo states otherwise; ask us to confirm the coverage before you order.

Primo's conditions: coverage is for the original purchaser; the product must be installed according to Primo's instructions; keep a bill of sale or payment record. Replacement parts ship at the purchaser's expense. Not covered: rust, fading, surface blemishes and oxidation unless they cause the part to fail; damage from use, misuse, improper installation or storage; unauthorized service or parts; lack of maintenance (including not removing ash from cast iron grates and not checking and tightening bolts several times a season); removal and reinstallation, service calls, labor, travel, diagnostic and freight charges. Claims go through your dealer with the model number, serial number and proof of purchase, or through Primo's online warranty claim form; international claims are not accepted. Full terms are on Primo's warranty and parts page.
