Description

The Primo Ceramic Heat Deflector Plates for the Oval Junior 200 (PG00325) are the pair of ceramic plates that turn the Primo Oval Junior 200 PGCJRH and the All-In-One Oval Junior 200 PGCJRC into an indirect cooker. Primo sells them 2 per box and says to use them together with the heat deflector racks to convert the Primo Oval into an oven, roaster or smoker. Primo says its racks are placed in the grill to hold the heat deflector plates, which allows indirect cooking.

The plates need the Oval Junior racks: the heat deflector racks for Oval Junior PG00313 (set of 2), sold separately. The Oval Junior 200 has 210 sq. in. of main cooking area on a 13-1/2 x 18-1/2 in. grid, 360 sq. in. with Primo's optional rack system, and a 151 to 850°F+ range (Primo Junior spec sheet). Primo's Quick Start Guide lists the indirect one-zone setup for baking, roasting and smoking as the one that needs heat deflectors or racks.

Plan ahead: these plates are sized for the Oval Junior only; other oval sizes have their own plates, listed below. Primo notes this ceramic item may have a longer-than-normal lead time, and it does not publish the plates' dimensions or weight. To split the fire box into a direct and an indirect zone instead, see the Oval Junior firebox divider PG00314.

Features

  • Oven, roaster or smoker: Primo says the plates, used with the heat deflector racks, convert the oval grill for indirect cooking.
  • Two plates per box: Primo packs the Junior set as 2 pieces.
  • Sized for the Oval Junior 200: made for the Junior and its 13-1/2 x 18-1/2 in. cooking grid.
  • Low-and-slow setups: Primo's owner's manual recipes use indirect setups from about 225-250°F up to about 350°F.
  • Pairs with the drip pan racks: the PG00313 racks that hold the plates also carry Primo's half drip pan, which can be filled with water for long smokes.

What's included

  • 2 Primo ceramic heat deflector plates for the Oval Junior 200 (PG00325)

The heat deflector racks and the drip pan are not included.

Setup and use

  • Confirm the size: these plates are for the Oval Junior 200. Primo's warranty does not cover unauthorized parts, so match the part to your grill before ordering.
  • Set up indirect cooking: place the Oval Junior heat deflector racks in the grill and set the two plates on them, as Primo describes for its plates and racks. Primo does not publish a separate diagram for the Oval Junior set, so ask us if you are unsure.
  • Handle with care: Primo's owner's manual warns that ceramic will break if dropped, and to use caution with any hot item and keep children away while cooking.
  • Fuel and lighting: use only natural lump charcoal, lit with a fire starter cube, a chimney or an electric starter with the dome open. Never use lighter fluid; Primo says it is absorbed by the ceramics and gives food a fuel taste.
  • Temperature control: Primo's Quick Start Guide notes that it is easy to raise the temperature and hard to bring it down, so approach your target gradually; for smoking, start a small fire and use only the daisy wheel holes on the top vent.
  • Grill placement: the Oval Junior needs 10 in. of clearance behind it so the lid opens properly and at least 2 in. around the outside (Primo Junior spec sheet).

Care: Primo does not publish separate care instructions for the plates. Primo says tiny surface cracks (crazing) in its ceramics are normal; if chunks of ceramic break off, contact Primo (owner's manual).

Warranty

Primo Ceramic Grills gives the original purchaser of the grill a limited lifetime warranty on all ceramic parts, a limited 5-year rust-through warranty on metal parts other than cast iron, a limited 1-year rust-through warranty on cast iron parts and on all other parts and accessories unless stated otherwise, and a limited 30-day warranty on felt gaskets and thermometers. Primo's warranty page does not name the heat deflector plates; ask us to confirm the coverage before you order.

Primo's conditions: coverage is for the original purchaser; the product must be used according to Primo's instructions; keep a bill of sale or payment record. Replacement parts ship at the purchaser's expense. Not covered: damage from use, misuse, improper installation or storage, unauthorized service or parts, lack of maintenance, removal and reinstallation, service calls, labor, travel, diagnostic and freight charges. Claims go through your dealer with the model number and proof of purchase, or through Primo's online warranty claim form; international claims are not accepted. Full terms are on Primo's warranty and parts page.
